An unlikely partnership was formed when HTC acquired a controlling interest in Beats Audio, the headphone company co-founded by hip-hop/rap artist Dr. Dre. In August 2011, HTC purchased a 51 percent stake for $300 million and promptly gave itself exclusive rights to build smartphones with Beats Audio sound. That arrangement worked well for the two companies, and while the two will continue to work together moving forward, HTC announced that it's selling shares back to Beats Audio. HP is on a roll today. In addition to the announcements of a few new ENVY notebooks and the company's first business Ultrabook, HP is expanding its ultraportable consumer notebook portfolio with new thin and light Pavilion dm4 notebooks. The new Pavilion dm4 measures 1-inch thick and weighs less than 4.5 pounds. Other key features include a 14-inch HD LED display, Intel Core processor options, and optional AMD Radeon HD discrete graphics. Look out Apple, slide aside Samsung, and move over Motorola because the gauntlet has been thrown, and boy has it ever. Making the most out of a press event in San Francisco, Hewlett-Packard formally (and finally) rolled out its long awaited webOS tablet, the HP TouchPad. HP's challenger enters the ring measuring 13.7 millimeters thick and weighing 1.6 pounds with a capacitive screen span extending 9.7 inches.
