The replacement of the MP3 has been coming forever, or so we've heard, but the ubiquitous file format has yet to really be toppled by anything else. Apple's AAC format is highly popular amongst iPod and iPhone users, but by and large, the de facto music format when it comes to digital is MP3. Computer maker Gateway has voluntarily recalled about 14,000 lithium-ion battery packs, sold as primary or spare power supplies for some of their laptop computers, because they pose an overheating and fire hazard.  The Irvine, Calif., computer maker said the affected battery packs were shipped as the primary or spare battery pack for Gateway 400VTX and 450ROG series notebooks. They were sold during a three-month period from May 2003 to August 2003 in the U.S. through Gateway's Web site and its Gateway Country stores. While we may not see him playing a character opposite Jack Sparrow any time soon, Mikhail Gorbachev is doing his part to save a Russian teacher accused of piracy, Alexander Ponosov. The teacher, accused of using pirated software at his school, is seen by many Russians as the unfortunate sap who Microsoft has chosen to go after in order to set a precedent when it comes to piracy in the region. Gorbachev asked Bill Gates himself to personally intervene in the case and show mercy to Mr. Ponosov, since he only meant to help his students.
