Qualcomm Atheros today unveiled its new Killer Wireless-N 1202 wireless module and Killer E2200 wired Ethernet controller. If you're at all familiar with Killer Technology (previously known as BigFoot Networks), you'll know these adapters are built with network performance in mind and as such include ping reducing technology and advanced QoS (Quality of Service) features. The new Wireless-N 1202 is essentially the same as the 1102 model, only now it comes with Bluetooth 4.0 support baked in. Otherwise, it retains the same dual-band MIMO design in a half-mini PCI-E card form factor. According to... Read more...
We're living in a connected world, and it's only growing more inter-connected by the day. Atheros Communications is eager to be a part of that expansion, and this week they've announced their HomePlug Green PHY development kit as part of its new ‘Internet of Things’ portfolio aimed at connecting hundreds, if not thousands, of IP addressable devices in the home. We've heard the whole "Internet of things" bit before elsewhere, and it's growing into quite the meme. Using Wi-Fi and HomePlug Green PHY powerline technologies, Atheros’ portfolio will enable scalable IP infrastructures... Read more...
It's Mobile World Congress, which means lots and lots of mobile innovations. Atheros is a major player in this space, and while they aren't a household name in the consumer universe, they power a lot of devices that end up in consumer hands. Recently, 802.11ac made a lot of noise in the tech world by promising wireless transfers nearing 1Gbps. That's mighty fast for Wi-Fi, and with the amount of HD multi-media being transferred and consumed these days, we'd say it'll be more of a necessity than ever before in the coming months and years. But what about phones? Will they be left out of the high-speed fun? Not if Atheros has anything to do with it. The company has just introduced a new 2-stream mobile 802.11n solution that enables both phones and tablets (as well as other mobile devices) to enjoy dual-band connectivity. Dual-band setups... When it comes to wireless connectivity, "fast enough" never actually is fast enough. There's always a need for having something faster, and with growing file sizes and loads of HD content everywhere you look, it's easy to understand why a company like Atheros would be working towards a faster Internet. The company has today introduced two new 802.11n router solutions, bringing high-end wireless performance to mainstream Wi-Fi products. Both of the new products are highly integrated, and they should find their way into mainstream routers and residential gateways shortly. The new Align AE933x and... Read more...
