Can you feel the love, AT&T subscribers? You should, because HTC just kicked out an update that upgrades the Aria to Android 2.2, otherwise known as Froyo. This marks the first time AT&T has updated Android software on more than one device in a month, and who knows, maybe it's a trend that will continue now that Apple's once monogamous relationship with Apple's iPhone 4 is suddenly polygamous. Updating the Aria smartphone to Android 2.2 requires a "Hard Reset and anything that is NOT part of the Operating System (applications downloaded from Android Market, SMS/MMS, email, etc.) will be... AT&T admitted earlier this year that Android was on their roadmap. It's obvious that AT&T is lacking in the Android department compared to other carriers; Verizon has a number of DROID phones, Sprint has the EVO 4G, and the original Android phone launched on T-Mobile. But AT&T has continued along with just the iPhone and a few Nokia smartphones here and there; it's not like they really needed to invest in Android with the iPhone being such a huge draw, but now that Android 2.2 is coming, the competition is heating up, and Android is drawing some serious attention. To date, just a single... Read more...
Sony has won the high-definition format war by backing the Blu-ray standard. Toshiba ran up the white flag over their rival HD DVD format, and things seemed settled. Not so fast. Professor Emerita Gertrude Neumark Rothschild of Columbia University told the US International Trade Commission that she believes she holds not only the patent on the Blu-ray laser, but a host of short-wavelength LED designs as well. She's filed a complaint against Sony and 30 or so companies for all sorts of devices that use the technologies. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in... This will go over like a lead balloon - I hope.  Time Warner Cable already offers a feature called Start Over in 6 of its 23 markets.  This feature is free and allows you to watch a program from the start, within 30 minutes its beginning - but without the ability to fast forward.  Starting this October Time Warner will offer a new service, called Look Back, which it will eventually expand around the country. The service, called Look Back, will let cable customers watch certain shows later on that they missed, just the way a digital video recorder does, but without an extra monthly fee.... Read more...
Fudo over at The Inquirer reports that ATI will be shipping standard and Crossfire edition variants of their upcoming R580+ GPU with the same operating frequencies. Traditionally, the Crossfire edition master card trailed the flagship level model in terms of frequency. For the first time, owners of the top of the line cards will be able to have two cards running in Crossfire mode with no forced decrease in core speed. Although a very welcomed change, it is somewhat ironic that this topic is already destined to become a null issue as ATI's upcoming RD600 chipset will not require a Crossfire... Read more...
