Sharp, the maker of Aquos HDTVs and other electronics, is facing some tough choices as begins the restructuring process. One of those choices may be whether to spin off its display business entirely. A Sharp spokesperson has indicated to Reuters that it is considering multiple options and didn’t confirm that a display spinoff is on the horizon. Sharp has denied that a spinoff is a possibility in the past. The company is known to have suffered losses in recent years, however, and multiple reports suggest that a spinoff could be on the table. If you've been watching television lately, you've probably heard some buzz about "Quattron." It's a new technology from Sharp that they seem really quite proud of, and now they're finally delivering it on a new range of HDTVs. The general concept is that Quattron adds a fourth sub-pixel of color (yellow) to go along with red, green and blue; in theory, this makes colors more vivid. Now, consumers can expect all AQUOS LCD HDTVs for years to come to be based around this tech. We've hit somewhat of a drought here lately in the world of HDTVs, but Sharp is making sure we're not left to wait any longer for new panels. This week, the company introduced its first-ever AQUOS HDTV with a LED backlight as well as the industry's first 60" LCD HDTV. The 65-inch LC-65E77UM (64-33/64" Diagonal) and 60-inch LC-60E77UN (60-1/32" Diagonal) AQUOS LCD TVs join the E77 series, and both sport 1080p panels.
