Now this is interesting. Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell, Inc., apparently feels that the smartphone will never kill off the PC, yet he himself has recently invested loads of company funds while breaking into the already saturated smartphone market. This is also coming from the man who has a 5" Slate PC on the horizon (the Dell "Streak"), and who has been scaling back desktop manufacturing for months on end. So, why the mixed words? Well, Michael was caught showing off the slate we mentioned above at the Citrix Synergy user conference in San Francisco, where it was loaded with a "Citrix receiver... Read more...
Dell, in the smartphone world? Believe it or not, it's true! Dell got out of the handheld game when they killed the Axim PDA line a few years back, but with smartphones becoming more and more popular (not to mention profitable), Dell found it hard to resist. After well over a year of rumors of a "Mini 3," the Dell Aero has just surfaced on AT&T.It's an Android-based device, but the interface has been heavily modified from what we can say. It'll be Dell's first smartphone in the United States, and the form factor shouldn't surprise you. It's a typical touch panel-based phone with limited hard... Read more...

Seattle has been a boomtown a half-a-dozen times over the years. Looks like it is again. The entrepreneurs of the digital age seemed to have settled on the Seattle area as the next big thing - the overcast version of Silicon Valley.   “The Seattle start-up ecosystem is vibrant, and growing rapidly,” said Oren Etzioni, an artificial-intelligence expert at the University of Washington and a serial technology entrepreneur. The University of Washington, in fact, is one of the big draws. It is fostering the entrepreneurial climate here the way Stanford University does in Silicon Valley. Another... Read more...
Our friends at the Tech Report have an interesting article on-line tonight (or this morning depending on where you're from!) investigating the effect Windows Vista's Aero interface has on power consumption.  As most of you probably know by now, Aero required a DX9 class video card to render properly, so even while sitting at the desktop your GPU is being put to use... "Much has been made of Windows Vista's new Aero interface, and for good reason. The GUI is loaded with luscious eye candy, including the liberal use of transparency,... Read more...
Air cooling at it's best? That's a pretty bold statement to make, but as ExtremeMHz reports, the AeroCool ExtremEngine 3T might just pull it off. Equipped with 140mm fans, this could be the best choice for you if you don't want to take a chance with water. "When I first heard about this case, I just had to get my hands one as I've been patiently waiting to see which company would jump the gun and release a case with fans larger than 120mm. When it comes to PC cases, all manufacturers have really hit a standstill in terms of providing better air... Read more...
That's right, a 250mm side panel fan. Madshrimps has a quick preview of what Aerocool has in store for us all, a fairly stylish case with some great cooling potential. Fortunately since the fan is so large, they can keep the RPMs down to reduce the noise, while still allowing for plenty of air to flow through. "A 250mm side panel is the eye catcher on this new case from Aerocool, it also features a 140mm intake fan and room for an additional 120mm outtake."... Read more...

The optimization accusations have started again. German tech sites 3D Center, and Computerbase are taking a close look at Nvidia's Anisotropic filtering methods after some recent findings as to how Nvidia implements the technique. Well the whole holiday season is finally coming to an end, and I'm looking forward to getting things back to normal. Who knows, maybe I'll get a few more tech calls from all the folks who got expensive computers and don't know how to use them :) Which brings me to a rather odd realization. Spyware and computer viruses, as annoying as they are, help me make money. I've always looked down on people who make money off of another persons misery... but that appears to be the situation I'm in... oh well ;) Albatron PX915G4 Pro @ Overclockers Online "Albatron decided to stick with the current Socket...
