Earlier this year, Samsung made major waves with the introduction of its 850 Pro SSD and the first commercial iteration of 3D stacked flash memory. Now, Micron is striking back with lower-geometry conventional NAND -- and new drive technology it claims will accelerate performance more effectively than other competing solutions. The new M600 drive family will launch at capacities from 128GB to 1TB across multiple form factors. mSATA, 2.5-inch conventional mobile drives, and the PCIe-capable M.2 platform are all supported with multiple drive sizes and form factors, as shown below. The M600 uses Micron's... Read more...
When AMD launched its Radeon R9 295X2, we praised the GPUs performance and its impressive water liquid cooling system, but noted that the price, at $1500, was quite high -- even given these positive characteristics. AMD's Never Settle Forever bundle helps to sweeten the deal, since it's worth about $150 at retail value, but it's not necessarily a deciding factor when the card is this expensive.   Now, NewEgg has found a way to sweeten the deal a bit more, though it's a limited time offer. Buy an R9 295X2 from Diamond at NewEgg, and you'll score yourself a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD besides.... Read more...
A few months back, we took a look at Samsung’s SSD 840 EVO series of solid state drives. At the time, we found their performance to be quite good, and the drives were competitively priced too. Shortly after the 2.5” versions of Samsung’s SSD 840 EVO drives hit the scene, the company prepared an array of mSATA drives featuring the same controller and NAND flash. The Samsung SSD 840 EVO mSATA series of drives would be essentially identical to their 2.5” counterparts, save for the mSATA drives’ much smaller form factor. We’ve got a 500GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO mSATA... Read more...

Samsung has been aggressively bolstering its solid state drive line-up for the last couple of years. While some of Samsung’s earliest drives may not have particularly stood-out versus the competition at the time, the company’s 830 series and more recently the 840 series of solid state drives—especially the 840 Pro--have been excellent, both in terms of value and overall performance in their target markets. Today we’re going to give you a taste of a couple of Samsung’s latest consumer-class solid state drives in the just-announced the 840 EVO series of products. As... Read more...
