Beyond3D has just posted a review of the mainstream GeForce 6800GS. This budget-oriented GPU has been receiving a great deal of press as of late for its price/performance ratio. However, seeing a "new" graphics card from NVIDIA hitting the shelves without the 7xxx family name does raise some questions as to the lifespan of the card. Regardless, this card is certainly an excellent choice for those looking to get the highest framerates for the least amount of money. The timing of the 6800 GS is fairly interesting and raises a few questions of its longevity. Seemingly NV40 chips are being,... Read more...

Crucial Ballistix PC2-8000 (BL2KIT6464AA1005) Memory Modules @ Xbitlabs.com: "The memory chips used in Crucial Ballistix PC2-8000 memory modules are made by Micron, which is actually not at all surprising. Namely these are MT47H64M8BT-3:A chips. According to the specification, these memory chips are designed to work at 667MHz frequency with CL=5. How does Crucial manage to make these chips work at 50% higher frequency than their nominal value? The answer to this question is quite obvious: it is possible due to extremely high voltage." Intel's Dual-Core CPUs Examined on OCAU: "Smithfield (current stepping A0) is based on the Prescott 1M core with E0 stepping. This core is known for high overclocking potential. On the other hand, knowing that Smithfield consumes at least 15% more power and runs hotter than the already hot Prescott, we did not expect much when we started overclocking. The reality was a pleasant surprise." ASUS N6800Ultra PCI-e SLI @ Hardwareavenue.com: "Although the Geforce 7800GTX from Nvidia saw its official release mere days ago, it doesn't spell the end of the former generation, in fact it is...   Currently, if you're in the market for a video card, there are two great options that will get you premium performance without blowing your budget: the Radeon X800XL from ATi and the GeForce 6800GT from nVidia.  Sure, there are more powerful cards, namely the X850XT and GF 6800 Ultra, but the price of these cards alone can sometimes be greater than an entire entry-level system purchase.  In our past reviews, we've seen that the X800XL and 6800GT create a gamer's dilemma - their similar performance leads to a virtual stalemate.  What might be the 6800GT's major advantage (at...
