Motherboard makers have long gone after the enthusiast crowd by implementing overclocking friendly features into their products, and these days companies get just as excited about benchmarking and OCing world records as end users do. Take MSI, for example, which is happy as can be that its X79A-GD65 (8D) was part of an overclocked system that set an official world record for the Physics portion of Futuremark's 3DMark 11 benchmark. Oddly enough, this is one of those announcements that make the hardcore gamers of yesterday feel old. For what seems like forever now, we here at Hot Hardware and others around the globe have been using Futuremark's 3DMark 06 to benchmark the latest and greatest gaming systems, GPUs, CPUs, etc. It has been an essential took in the benchmarking toolkit, and today it's finally being upgraded.
