Amazon ‘Prime Now’ Brings One-Hour Deliveries To NYC Residents

Amazon is getting dangerously close to delivering faster than your favorite pizza place. The new Prime Now service, which is available in Manhattan, promises that you’ll have that new TV within an hour of clicking the Place Your Order button. You’ll pay $7.99 for one-hour delivery, but if you have the restraint to hold out another hour, Amazon waives the delivery fee altogether. And, you can watch the courier’s progress on a map, thanks to the Prime Now app.

Prime Now is tied to Amazon, so you’ll use your existing Amazon account to login to the Prime Now app and add products to your cart. You can buy them anytime during the day or night for one-hour delivery, while the free two-hour delivery is available from 6am to midnight. If you’re in New York City, you can check here to see whether your location is Prime Now-eligible. Amazon says that other locations will open soon, but it hasn’t named them yet.

Of course, you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership to enjoy Prime Now. The company has been pushing its $99 annual subscription hard in recent years, bolstering its flagship perk (free, two-day shipping on purchases) with a music streaming service, a Netflix-style video streaming service, and (most recently) unlimited photo storage.
