Wii Becoming More Powerful Than You Can Imagine

Nintendo's Wii console game is an interesting piece of technology, and a fascinating business phenomenon as well. While Nintendo's competitors produced consoles as powerful and versatile as they could, charged a small fortune for them, and still didn't make much money on them, the Wii concentrated on simple, fun, intuitive gameplay, introduced an innovative controller, and made money hand over fist even though they had the cheapest console. But let's face it. The minute you saw that controller, everybody had the same idea: I want a lightsaber! LucasArts has finally decided to make themselves and Nintendo even richer, and all of us living room Jedis happy, with Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels.

“Lightsaber Duels,” the game will feature combat controlled by the player holding the wiimote as if it was his saber handle. The one thing longtime Star Wars fans may be slightly disheartened by, however, is that the game takes place specifically in the Clone Wars film and animated series era. This means characters like Anakin and General Grievous will be present, but characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker likely will not be. There will be destructible environments, the current big game buzzword, and force powers will be a big factor in the game. Cut out a piece of a pillar from the surrounding building, then force throw it at your opponent, for example.

Well, as usual, George Lucas is clueless, but it won't matter. Darth Vader or not, HotHardware predicts this will make the biggest splash in video gaming since you made a DOS boot disk to run Doom on your 486. Due out for the holidays from Krome Studios.

Ive never been much into the gaming consoles but the we has got me interested. My daughter and her Boyfriend got one and stay on it all the time. She before didnt have much interest in them till she got hers!I think Nintendo and its competitors anticipated when it was introduced it would do well but I dont think they expected it to be the phenomenon it has become!

The Wiimote isn't perfect, however.  There's a reason all of the people in Wii Sports have no arms.  The baseball game is the biggest example of how Light Saber holding might be.  There's not total control, especially up and down.  Still, it's gonna be awesome.

Huh, the only game I've played on the Wii is Brawl, so I really have no idea how the Wiimote will work for this. Seems rather interesting.

I still want a Wii, but have been procrastinating for various reasons... this might be the thing that makes me actually fork out the $$$!

Anyone else find this kind of contradictory?  Anakin = Darth Vader

Anyway, sounds like a really good idea.  I hope the Wiimote works well enough to pull it off.

I can just imagine kids spinning around the room, and jumping off objects while they play, but it all eventually becomes a sit down and barely move the wiimote kind of game.

Yeah, I noticed the Anakin/Vader thing too.  But Anakin likes to jump a lot, while Vader likes to force throw things.  Different styles.

I think The Force Unleashed looks like the better game to get.  And not the Wii version either, but the PS3/360 version due to the high quality physics.

Pfffft...until the Wii supports 1080p HDMI connection, not only will it not be considered 'next gen' but will not get my hard earned money.
