What's Worse Than A Porn-Laden iPod?

What's worse than a little girl receiving a porn-laden iPod for Christmas?  How about one with a bizarre rant that looks like something out of a Batman movie?

The message is more or less a rant about “capitalist garbage” and “reclaiming your mind from the media shackles” according to reports.

"Jay Ellis, the girls father, returned the ipod to the Germantown, Md. Wal-Mart store where he purchased it. The store manger told him that another customer returned an iPod with a similar issue."

An iPod stuffed with porn, or a psychotic rant.  That's a tough choice.

Psychotic rant. As the father of the girl who received the porn-laden MP3 player said, it's gonna be some time before she can forget those images.

I could not agree more, Iria.  I have a 7 year old daughter and a 10 year old boy.  If my daughter was exposed to that, I would be hunting down the scumbag that put that garbage on the machine.  I doubt I would be setting much of a good example with that idiot either, once I found them.  Actually, maybe a lawyer could rip that person to shreds even better than I could?  Now there's an idea...

How about people do their job as parents and maby check the ipod for this kind of stuff or, GOD FORBID, something like this does happen and you TALK to your kids about the stuff they herd and explain to them why you don't want them listening to that instead of itching to sue somebody over the incident. I just find it amazing how parents are raising such hypersensitive kids.

sorry dude normally i'd agree with that stance but when i buy a new product i expect it to be *gasp* new.  if i bought a used ipod for my kid i sure as hell would check it out first but in this instance the company has failed by selling (and probably repackaging) a tainted product.

I thought about that as well when I made my post but forgot to mention it.  Agreed, there was a definite failure on the parent there but on a shrink-wrapped item, you can't find as much fault with them.  Regardless, you have to be vigilant as a parent these days.  There's a definite breakdown in society of epidemic proportions in that regard; parents not being a parent at all.  I'm not sure I know enough about this story to judge on that though.

Hi All,

As someone who is to be Married in 2008 I have to confess I'm somewhat gunshy about having Kids. My Fiance wants Kids, She loves them as do I. However, Kids are a awesome responsibility. In my job I all to often see what the lack of Parental supervision can result in. Society has definitely taken a turn for the worse & while I hope I'm wrong, it's only going to get worse. Unless decent Folk are willing to make a stand againts  crap like stores repackaging used & tainted products & selling them as new it'll only continue to happen. Porn is a epidemic, & we must protect our Children from it. A line must be drawn where that kind of crap won't be tolerated. Period.

Sorry for the rant.

I agree that talking to the kids about what they saw is a great idea.. But how do you explain something like that to a 10 year old or younger child ? I mean sex in general is kinda messy and to a child may even look painful or violent.. So yehi would not even know where to start that conversation and Id be pretty pissed off I would even have to. Something packaged as new should be new and those not new labeled "open box" so you at least know your getting a used one that way.

just my 2 cents

You explain to a child that there are sertian things that are appropriate for children and not adults and there are sertian things that are appropriate for adults that arnt for children.

That doesnt even remotely help a poor 10 year old crying over what she just saw.. it wont help her understand it, doesnt help it go away.. It's sad you have to tell a child the world isnt a nice place shattering their innocence even earlier than it would be shattered in today society.

As a father of two young girls I fear the day that I have to try and help them understand the world as it is.  I agree with Davo vigilance is paramount, and its very hard as just when you think you have all the basses covered some other problem crops up.  My example being commercials on television, on a children oriented channel during prime child watching hours selling everything from female 'hygiene' products, to condoms to escort services.  I still haven't worked out ways to explain to a 3 yr old what these things are for.

In ref to a sealed ipod full of Porn I can't imagine how livid I would be to get it home and in pre-checking it, find that its full of such content...  my daughter would never know it, but the clerks who sold it to me would likely never forget me.  This just warns me in the future make sure that I check everything, carefully, now even stuff that was packaged as new from the vender/manufacturer. (I wonder what the apple/PC commercial would play out like with this one:  "Hi I'm a Zune...  and I'm an Ipod.  I come from Microsoft with feature X, X and X.  Oh yeah, Zune?  I come with 'XXX' as well.")

HAHA! Thats a good one! I'd still be more pissed that I payed full price for a "brand new" product and I got a second hand refurb. I read that Gamestop had this problem when the Xbox 360's first came out. Folks would buy a used 360 and the HDD was full of porn. Really sad IMO.

Agreed

but y would anyone give a little girl an iPod filled with porn on christmas?

I'm gonna guess you simply didn't read all the way through did you?...go back and read the article again....  it will make sense when you do I think.

Thats the problem with phones, ipods etc being returned and "refurbished" from the manufacturer, or even just repackaged. I've gotten cellphones with listings of london escorts and numbers still in the contact list. I'd be so pissed if that happened to my daughter.
