Get ready for what could be a barrage of infomercials and home shopping-type channels on YouTube
. That's because the Google
-owned video sharing site is introducing a new channel gadget that will enable companies to set up shop and connect viewers with their wares, allowing them to look up prices and compare various retailers all from within YouTube.
"This new channel gadget will enable shoppers to seamlessly move from browsing how-to videos and featured products to finding which retailers carry them, check availability, compare prices and make a purchase, all with fewer clicks than today," Google stated in a blog post.
Now you can comparison shop right from within YouTube.
The first brand to test drive YouTube's new tool is TRESemmé, which is using it to showcase its line of hair care solutions. With a growing interst for "hair how to" videos, TRESemmé has generated 2.7 million views on its channel to date, and this tool will allow the company to connect consumers with the products they see in the demo videos. The platform essentially provides viewers with a shorter path from point A to point B since they can look up vendors and compare prices without performing a separate search outside of YouTube.
Google will offer the new gadget as a premium add-on for its consumer goods clients.
