WD announced its new high-performance My Book Studio desktop external drives. The new drives feature a customizable e-label that is visible even when the unit is unplugged, so users can easily see what's on the drive. The e-label uses e-paper technology similar to that found on the Amazon Kindle. The label shows available storage capacity and drive security status. The customizable label can be changed easily.

The new My Book Studio drives come with a FireWire 800 interface and are TimeMachine compatible. For security, 256-bit hardware-based encryption is included.
