Sprint agreed to license Vonage its portfolio of more than 100 patents on connecting calls between a regular telephone network and a packet-switched network such as the Internet.
The $80 million Vonage agreed to pay consists of $35 million for past use of the patents, $40 million for a fully paid future license, and $5 million in prepayment for services.
Vonage's stock rose in Monday trading, but there is still the issue of Vonage's case with Verizon, so hold onto your phones, er, hats!

Thats a shame, I am a new vonage customer and so far I love it. My att phone bill kept runing around 120 a month with limited features, so far vonage has been 25 a month with caller id, local, long distance, can even call Europe for free. Anywhere else in the world is 1 cent a minute. I hope they survive this, now if we could please get some broadband and cable competition, my near 200 dollar a month cable bill from comcast is rediculous. |
