Vizio's XVT Series Of HDTVs Makes Move To 3D

Well, it's pretty much official now. 3D is the next big thing in television. Once 1080p become "the norm," we wondered what the next logical step would be. Traditional cable companies can't readily deliver 4k content yet, so upping the resolution on existing sets doesn't make much sense. But with 3D content becoming more readily available (ESPN 3D, 3D Blu-ray Discs, etc.), it seems that people are becoming more willing to splurge on a TV that requires 3D glasses.

And now, America's first low-cost leader in televisions (Vizio) is following Samsung, Panasonic, Sony and everyone else by introducing a 3D line of their XVT televisions. These sets have won the company quite a few awards, and now they're going 3D. The new line includes three Full HD 3D TVs, 3d glasses, 3D Blu-ray players (with Wireless Apps), wireless internet routers and high-speed HDMI cables.

The new trio of sets will arrive in 42", 47" and 55" sizes, and they're available now at Amazon, Sams Club and Target websites, not to mention Vizio.com. Retail availability is planned for the next few weeks. The new sets don't change much from the 2D versions, except of course by offering 3D support, Smart Dimming, built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth remote with sliding QWERTY keypad. We definitely hope that more apps come through the pipeline that support 3D, but at any rate, we think it's going to become increasingly difficult to buy just a 2D HDTV by the end of next year.
