Vine Short Video Sharing App Swings to 40 Million Users

Vine, the Twitter owned video sharing app that allows users to post 6-second video clips of whatever they want, is now home to over 40 million users, the company announced in a Twitter post. That's not bad for a service that launched around 7 months ago.

"We've said this before and we'll say it again: this community -- now more than 40 million of you -- is amazing. Thank you for inspiring us," Vine tweeted out.

Not only is the 40 million number remarkable, but it also underscores the importance of serving both major mobile platforms, Android and iOS. Vine began as an iOS-only application and stayed that way until June when it finally launched to Android. At the time, Vine had 13 million members, meaning it's added more than 27 million more since welcoming Android to the fold. It's also now available for Kindle Fire users too.

Not without competition, quick video clips have become a popular pastime among mobile users. Facebook recently added the ability to shoot 15-second videos to Instagram, and you can record video on Snapchat, too.
