Verizon to Nix Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans
Those of you who are Verizon 3G customers feasting on an unlimited data plan, enjoy your time at the all-you-can-consume data buffet while you still can because the end is nigh. According to reports, Verizon plans to eradicate the $30 per month unlimited plan that some customers signed up for before Big Red rolled out its tiered price plans last year, and all those people who are currently grandfathered in will be pushed off.
"Everyone will be on data share," Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said during a telecom conference, according to FierceWireless.
Shammo was referencing Verizon's upcoming shared data plans that are supposed to come out later this summer. Barring a PR backlash significant enough to make Verizon change its tune at the last minute -- unlikely, by the way -- unlimited data gobblers will have to pick a shared plan once they're kicked off their current one.

"A lot of our 3G base is on unlimited," Shammo added. "When they migrate off 3G they will have to go to data share. That is beneficial to us."
It could also be beneficial to families with multiple smartphones in the household, depending on how the shared data plan prices break down. Those details have yet to be announced.
