Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Under Siege Sneaks Up On Xbox One, PS4, And PC Gamers In 2015

From what we've seen so far, Rainbow Six fans are in for a big time treat. At the E3 convention taking place this week, Ubisoft announced that it's working on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, the latest and perhaps most ambitious installment yet in the popular franchise. Ubisoft Montreal is heading up the development and drawing inspiration from real-world counter-terrorism organizations.

For the first time a Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six game, players will participate in sieges -- lots of them -- featuring lethal close-quarter confrontations and a new style of assault where enemies manipulate their surroundings into strongholds. You can reinforce walls and floors, use barbed wire, and more. On the flip side, you can breach where enemies are holed up using observation drones, sheet charges, rappelling, and other fun elements.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

"As fans of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and tactical shooters in general, we set out to create the game we always wanted to play within the counter-terrorism universe. We asked ourselves ‘how could we capture the incredible tension and unique tactics of these confrontations?’ We found the answer in the Siege gameplay and procedural destruction." said Xavier Marquis, creative director at Ubisoft. "Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is the game that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six fans have been waiting for, and first-person shooter players will be drawn to its unique gameplay."

Destruction is a big part of the game, which is made possible in part by Ubisoft Montreal's propriety Realblast engine. It looks realistic and is unscripted, which translates into an environment that reacts authentically and dynamically based on factors such as the caliber of bullets and amount of explosives used.

There's a 6 minute 22 second trailer floating around the web, which you can view here. It shows pre-alpha footage captured from a multiplayer match. The game will release in 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
