It's been more than two years since Tim Cook
was named CEO of Apple
, and while one could argue there have been any truly revolutionary products to come out of Cupertino since he took the reins, he's done a mostly good job keeping investors happy and consumers interested. This past year was especially busy with the release of the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina Display, iOS 7, and new Mac Pro, plus a handful of product refreshes.
He's built up a bit of momentum going into 2014, though don't expect Cook to dial it in next year. In a somewhat lengthy memo to employees that was picked up by 9to5Mac
, Cook reflected on the past year during which time Apple recorded its 50 billionth download on the App Store, and hinted at some big things coming up for the new year.
"We have a lot to look forward to in 2014, including some big plans that we think customers are going to love," Cook stated in the memo. "I am extremely proud to stand alongside you as we put innovation to work serving humankind's deepest values and highest aspirations."
Cook didn't go into detail regarding Apple's "big plans" for the coming year, but if the rumor mill is any indication, a smart watch
could be among the products his company will push next year. We could also be looking at a bigger size iPhone
model that approaches phablet territory and/or an even larger iPad tablet before the year is through.
What do you think Apple has up its sleeve?
