Never has there been a better time to be a console
junkie. That's because your gaming dollar stretches a lot farther today than it did when the current crop of the 'big 3' gaming consoles were first released (Microsoft Xbox 360
, Nintendo Wii
, Sony PlayStation 3
), with new models boasting bigger feature-sets, and in some cases, lower prices.
The upgrade bug has apparently hit Sony, who is now shipping a 160GB version of its PS3 console for $300, the same price as the current 120GB model.
But the real treat for console gamers will come next month when Sony releases its PlayStation Move bundle. This upcoming SKU will include the Move motion controller, PlayStation Eye camera, Sports Champion game, and a comparatively massive 320GB hard drive.
The PlayStation Move bundle will run $400, which is a fair amount of coin to pay for a console. At the same time, it's an extremely smart move by Sony to beef up hard drive capacity, which shouldn't significantly raise the manufacturing cost, but helps consumers justify spending a $100 premium over the non-Move 160GB version.
So what's everyone's opinion on these new models and price points? Does anyone plan on picking up either of these consoles?
