Social Sadness: Facebook Outage Prompts L.A. Area Users To Call 911

It's best not to let the actions of a relative few be viewed as a reflection of society as a whole, otherwise we might as well throw in the towel and call it a day. Why? On Friday, Facebook went down in some areas for a period of time. It's annoying when that happens, but it took a new level of idiocy for some Los Angeles residents to call 911 about the outage.

Yes, it's come to that. Posting status updates and eagerly checking for likes and comments has become such an addictive past time that some users are willing to tie up emergency 911 phone lines to inquire why the police aren't sending resources to fix the issue. Because, you know, computer engineering with a specialty in social networks is apparently on the job description.

"Facebook is not a Law Enforcement issue, please don't call us about it being down, we don't know when FB will be back up!," Sheriff's Sgt. Burton Brink of the Crescenta Valley station posted to Twitter.

Perhaps because it seemed so unbelievable, Brink posted a follow-up tweet explaining that yes, people were actually calling 911 about the Facebook outage, adding that his department had received an unknown number of 911 and regular phone calls.

Facebook's outage occurred early in the morning on the Friday. According to Facebook, the issue affected all API and web services.

The Russian government sent a satellite into space full of mating geckos to study reptile mating in a zero gravity environment like a week ago and promptly lost both communications with and and I would perceive control of it.

The United states has three main missile silo fields where our nuclear missiles are housed for active use that still use 5.25" floppy disks actively as part of their firing machination and fully analog phone systems.

In the very recent past one of them was found manned by 1 sleeping attendant by a pizza delivery man both of which are illegal with the added factor that the reason this was found by this delivery driver is because the front door was open and he went inside searching at assumably a wrong address.

The general public is not supposed to have access there are supposed to be no less than 4 active duty officers on site at all times, the attendant cannot sleep while on active duty unless replaced by a similarly trained individual, the direct perimeter defenses (door) are never to be left open or unattended.

This is our military in direct charge of active Nuclear ICBM's (Intercontinental Ballistic warheads (better known as missiles)), placed by our government in technically malfunctioning housing, and unattended by those they think falsely are there protecting us. Can you imagine if he fell over and or woke up from some nightmare and hit the wrong button.

SO I really would not be worried too much about a few idiots thinking it is correct protocol to call the police when there social network goes down as our active government not only aids mega corporations to rob us daily because they can bribe them enough with lobbyists to do so over doing anything for the other 98% of our population but we still not only elect them to office repeatedly, but we also care so little about our future relatives not to mention the currently existing ones to do nothing about it but whine on active whiteboards all over the internet and then still elect them again the next time elections come up and actively do nothing.

I would say thats most likely dumber than calling the police because facebook is down! I am not blaming the military here I am blaming our broken political system and us who so wisely let them continue to do so while discussing a few idiots who called the police in LA because there facebook went down.

Guys, Facebook is a vital part of our civilization and our daily lives. If at all we can't get on it, we have lost our abilities to function as human beings. It's integral. It's necessary to live.

Beware the day when we have to struggle each day without Facebook and...go outside...interact with actual people... *shudder*
