While the Chrome OS looks nice and the whole cloud computing concept seems to be the way of the future. I do not like being in a contract or tied to a particular piece of hardware. There is a free open source Chromium based Cloud OS you can get right now that can be run from any laptop, and to me it looks a lot better like this... http://www.tech-adventures.com/2011/02/jolicloud-portable-html5-desktop-web-of.html |

"Show of hands, who plans on picking one up?"

You forgot to add the "-By optimus" line after you quote yourself, optimus. This way tt's hard to know you were the one who wrote your comment. I'd love to get a Chromebook, but there's no money atm. :( |

I'm taking the more prudent course and waiting for additional reviews about the Chromebook before I decide to buy one. The higher than expected price is a major turn-off for me. |
|
The price killed it for me. |

Certainly won't be purchasing one here. I would much rather duel boot the OS on an existing machine. |

I have one of the beta CR-48's. If you're intimidated by Linux, and even Windows, but comfortable with a phone or web-browser... the Chromebook may be for you. If you're a tech-geek, like pretty much everyone here... you're at least going to want to dual-boot an OS that gives you local apps (as you're probably not needing the "BIOS will re-image you if pwn'd" feature anyway... especially if you're a user of a different Linux flavor). I give kudos to Google for sticking their neck out on this one. I wish them lots of success, but I don't see the market being significant (though I travel in IT-literate circles). At least, I don't see a significant market at the price-point their partners are setting. I've managed to not switch my unit into dev-mode or do anything untowardly all this time, so that I could give them good feedback... but it's killing me. I think I'm going to make this thing dual-boot Ubuntu 11.10 next weekend. |

Y so mean EHarler! :D raise of hands?... nvm :D Its cool and all but much rather get a normal laptop or desktop :) |

Nope no hands up to consider an actual purchase but gottta give it the ol Sure we heard comments before about purchasing net/note/laps before with-out the OS installed,Could be a blessing in disguise for some to consider alternatives .At least try some modern open source systems, breathe new life into something they already have, & install a crisp modern OS system on it for a heck of a lot less. likely not to hear any of that from Best Buy or Amazon. But in HH some multi-booty action ! |

Id have to go with 3vi1 on this, yeah it looks cool, but i honestly dont see myself buying another notebook just for the OS. Besides, i already dual boot with linux, and cloud storage isnt really a big thing for me, id rather have it on hand, safer that way. It is pretty good lookin, but i think my money is going to a PSVita instead. |
