Tonight's news post is gonna be a little longer than normal since I'm doing my game news post, and want to get a bit of tech news in along with it. One interesting article is how the Washington Post claims the Gamecube is "Obsolete"... I personally hate seeing comments like that. Maybe it's because the cube is the only console system I have, and the only one I want. Does that make me biased? Probably. But to those of us who are fans of games that only Nintendo can deliver, the system is still very much alive.

"Though it looks like a first-person shooter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl promises to be far more than that. This ambitious game from Ukrainian developer GSC Game World will pack some of the latest next-generation graphics in an attempt to bring the countryside surrounding the infamous nuclear power plant at Chernobyl to life. In this survival action game, you'll play as a "stalker," an armed
scavenger looking to recover valuable items from the exclusion zone that surrounds the plant. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is set after a second, fictitious explosion at the power plant that has drastically affected the surrounding area."
"The first product to use the Cell will be a workstation PC jointly developed by Sony and IBM and set to go on sale in 2005. That's machine is intended mainly for creating computer animation and enabling other demanding graphics tasks. Both Sony and Toshiba expect to begin selling high-definition TV sets powered by the Cell in 2006."
"While the author of the article may feel that the cube is 'Obsolete', fans of such games as the Mario, Metroid, Zelda, and Resident Evil series, the feeling might be slightly different. Not to mention many games that come out for X-Box and PS2 also appear on Gamecube. The cube may not have as many titles as X-Box and PS2, but I'd prefer quality over quantity(not to say X-Box and PS2 don't have quality games, I'm just partial to the classics that only GC can provide)" - Matt
"A high-resolution mode has been added, bringing the world of Vana'diel to life with even more detail. Of course, low-resolution mode is still available for users with lower-spec machines. Choose the setting for your own system and enjoy!"
"ASRock, the budget division of ASUS, has long been known for their inexpensive motherboards. Will the ASRock K8 Combo Z be an awakening to enthusiasts or will ASRock continue to belong on the budget motherboard shelf?"
"Swiftech has a new water cooling kit out for Socket 754/939/940 computers! The kit we have here is the Swiftech H2O-120 revision 3. (As this was a pre-release unit, please disregard the REV 2 stamp on the printed manual.) Even though this is a "kit" it is still very much a do-it-yourself project. Swiftech aims to make the installation process as simple as possible by including every piece of hardware required to finish the job."
"Four sales executives of German chipmaker Infineon Technologies have agreed to plead guilty to participating in a conspiracy to fix the prices of computer memory chips, the U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday."
