Rumor: NVIDIA & Intel At Odds Over CSI

Rumor: NVIDIA & Intel At Odds Over CSI

As with all rumors, please take the following news item with a grain of salt until we can receive official confirmation or denial from either Intel or NVIDIA.

Rumor has it that Intel doesn't want to share all of its secrets in regards to Common System Interface (CSI) technology with NVIDIA.

“And the same sources claimed that while Intel hasn’t exactly fallen in love with AMD, it appears happy to talk to Nvidia’s bitter competitor, which, of course, now owns ATI.

Olive branches are being wafted in the direction of Sunnyvale.”

One possible reason is that the crystal ball for NVIDIA is not very clear, but many are wondering how they'll survive the merging of the GPU back onto the CPU die, something that might happen in the next decade.  It seems to many that a possible answer is that NVIDIA will do what it takes to get involved in making CPUs, which probably wouldn't thrill Intel.

i think the reason is intel wants their own "Fusion" and they know nvidia is looking for it as well, with their newly acquired ageia, so why help them along in interfacing with intel products.

Makes sense.

Would it be feasable for Intel to compete in the GPU market? If not... why?

I am in the process of upgrading my sysytem now, and this only complicates things for me.Confused

I hate to say it but what goes around comes around. Nvidia didnt want to give intel sli license for their motherboards and now intel is saying fine we dont want to give you our (whatever technology). I am glad they are talking to amd though.

On that note, I think its a little weird -- I mean top rivals working together? Two very big guys conspiring against an average guy....who do you think would win the battle?

I'm quite happy about this actually. Considering Nvidia refused giving a SLI license to intel for their motherboard chipset. I wouldn't mind that nvidia did this if they atleast had a decent intel chipset. But the 650/680i chipsets had MANY issues, any now they release 750/780i which is just a 650/680 with updated specs and a BR04 chip for tri sli? They deserve it. I feel insulted even though I don't even have a nvidia board considering these two new chipsets.....As much as nvidia's graphics cards rock atm....I really do hope they get what they deserve.

Hi All,

I believe that Intel wants to get into the discreet Graphics market. Given their size & resourses I can see them becomimg a major player if the pursue it.
