Revisiting the Origin Genesis Gaming Desktop

One of the downsides to system reviews is that it's usually impossible to evaluate system reliability or performance over an extended period of time. Since boutique builders typically assemble rigs with a focus on solid warranties or top-level components, not being able to properly grade long-term reliability is an area of product coverage that some of you might find lacking.

Fortunately, we're currently in a position to investigate this sort of question with one particular product and perhaps on a higher level as well.  Here's our look back in the review and moving forward with the Origin Genesis custom gaming desktop system...

"Nice article, I dont think any gamer who owns a system like this has a reason to up upgrade anything else but the SSD. Step up and invest into a 120GB and it will be fine . The Dual 5970's are still a force to be wrecking with. This system was a beast back then and a beast now still. "

Very good customer service :) Sounds like they know to keep the consumer happy. A happy person will recommend their friends which is good for both parties. The system is still a monster in the benchmarks and it's good to hear how well it has held up over time.

Really, when you think about it, a Core i7-920 is plenty of horsepower to drive even a pair of 5970s under any game engine and enough CPU juice for any general task. No question this system has life span and then some but agreed, definitely need more room on that boot volume.

Great idea for the article, I enjoyed it. It was interesting to see the problems you were having with the revodrive and the sound card. I built my first rig so I don't have anything constructive to say about oem's.

I have not owned any OEM desktop systems personally in quite some time. But it sounds like Origin has it going on from the customer support perspective. I can say I have had both good and bad experiences with the customer service from at least 4 major vendors (Dell, HP, Toshiba, ACER) when it comes to customer support it all depends on the technical representative you get and mostly I was dealing with business support lines.

My Cyberpower PC i7-870 is still running strong. I did replace the GTX285 with a GTX 570 but not because the 285 was defective. It is still working fine in another system.

Well... Nice to know that the computer they bought a year ago still works well for newer games... Guess with the more powerful hardware coming out we're feeling less of a need to upgrade to the slightly faster next generation.

The question is less about whether or not it works and more a consideration of how well the system held its value. With that said, consoles are definitely holding game fidelity back.
