Ready For Yosemite, Apple Updates MacBook Pro With Retina Display, Cuts Pricing
Pat yourself on the back if you've been patiently waiting for Apple to refresh its MacBook Pro with Retina display making the leap. Today is that day -- in anticipation of OS X Yosemite, Apple refreshed its MacBook Pro with Retina display line with faster processors, double the memory in entry-level configurations, and a lower price tag for the top-of-the-line 15-inch model.
The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display now comes standard with a 2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (up from 2.4GHz previously), 8GB of DDR3-1600 RAM (up from 4GB of RAM previously), and 128GB of flash-based PCIe storage for $1,299. For $1,499, Apple will double the storage to a 256GB SSD, and at the $1,799 price point, you get you a 2.8GHz Core i5 processor and 512GB SSD.
Moving up to the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, the $1,999 model now comes with a 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (up from 2GHz previously), 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM (up from 8GB previously), and 256GB SSD. Meanwhile, the flagship model receives a $100 price drop to $2,499 and comes with a 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, 512GB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics with 2GB of GDDR5 memory.
Finally, Apple also knocked $100 off the price of its non-Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro to $1,099, which comes with a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, and 500GB hard drive.
All of these systems will receive a free upgrade to OS X Yosemite in the Fall.
