QNAP Intros Atom-Powered TS-439 Pro Turbo NAS

Just days after QNAP announced that its Turbo NAS devices would be gaining XDove Mail support, now it's introducing an all new unit for storage junkies to swoon over. The TS-439 Pro Turbo NAS is admittedly aimed at business users, though there's nothing in stone that says enthusiastic consumers can't find a lot to love. The device features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, twin gigabit Ethernet jacks, five USB 2.0 sockets, two eSATA ports and support for RAID 0/1/5/6/5+spare configurations.

The four-bay unit also includes Online RAID Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration along with advanced functions such as iSCSI target service with Thin Provisioning, AES 256-bit volume-based encryption, automatic policy-based IP blocking, instant SMS / email alert and SSL secure certificate. You can stuff up to 6TB of space within, and that amount can be increased greatly if you don't mind adding external drives via the litany of integrated expansion ports. QNAP touts the unit's multifaceted nature as it points out that it can be used as a file server, FTP server, web server, etc. that be accessed via Linux, UNIX, Mac and Windows. Curiously, the company has also provided a Surveillance Station feature, which is available for users to monitor and record the video from up to four IP-based cameras to enhance the office security.

There's no mention of a price just yet, but given just how proud QNAP is about the "world's first four-bay Intel Atom-based NAS," we'd plan on sucking it up and paying a stiff premium.
