It's been a secret to no one that Sony's PlayStation 4 launch could have gone a little bit better. At this point, the general consensus seems to be that the console is a great offering, and a well-designed one, too, but for some, the on-fire hype was quickly doused with a bucket of water as they realized they received, in effect, a brick.
Last weekend, we covered the initial reports, which stated that some consoles simply wouldn't turn on - they'd pulse blue indefinitely, but go no further. Earlier in the week, Sony admitted to the issues, and wrote a fairly detailed guide on how to diagnose these "Blue Light of Death" issues.
At this point, there still doesn't seem to be clear proof that the above-mentioned solutions have helped very many, as peering around the Web, I've still seen many comments about how slow it's taking some to get their situation fixed (we'd assume that these folks would have tested these tricks before giving up on their console entirely), and since we're barely a week past the console's launch, I'm sure more will become known about that soon.
Either way, we can be sure that Sony's at least pleased with its accomplishment of selling 1 million consoles in 24 hours.
While Sony hasn't gone into detail regarding exactly what its latest PS4 firmware update tackles, we'd assume that because the sole bullet-point is "stability", it has something to do with BLOD issues. Because PlayStation consoles require the latest firmware in order to take advantage of PlayStation Network, even if you're solely an offline gamer you'll want to upgrade as soon as possible. Doing so is simple: If you're not automatically notified for some reason, hit-up the "System Information" option under your Settings > System menu and check for an update there. Alternatively, you can download the update from the URL below and copy it to a USB device to update in much the same way (perfect for those who can't get online with their consoles).
Let's hope that these BLOD issues are behind us. There's little that's more frustrating than being stoked to boot up that latest tech product and see something like that happen.
