Rumor alert: It looks like Intel could be planning to launch new Xeons based on the new Penryn core on November 11th. The good news is that CPUs should start at $209 for a 2.00 GHz and top out at 3.16 GHz for $1,172.
As we’ve reported before, we expect the Penryn family CPUs to ship with larger caches and the new SSE 4 instructions. The entire industry is also eagerly awaiting AMD to announce their next generation chip, Barcelona, before the end of the year. It's going to be a great holiday season for people who love processors.
As with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt until Intel makes a public statement.
