Panasonic Introduces Three New LUMIX Cameras

Panasonic launched three new 12.1 megapixel LUMIX cameras with distinct purposes. The new LUMIX FZ35 is a superzoom camera with an 18x zoom and HD video recording capabilities. The LUMIX FP8 focuses on looks, but also offers HD video capabilities. Finally, the LUMIX ZR1 is touted as featuring the "world's first 0.3mm thin aspherical lens."

All Panasonic LUMIX cameras feature Intelligent Auto (iA) Mode and now offer POWER Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.), which features double the repression power compared to the previous image stabilization system (MEGA O.I.S.) to help capture blur-free images. Read on as we take a closer look at each of these new cameras which are expected to be available in September.

LUMIX DMC-FZ35

As a successor to the popular FZ28, the new LUMIX DMC-FZ35 comes with an 18x optical zoom lens and the ability to record HD video with motion zoom capabilities. For easy recording, the FZ35 offers a dedicated video record button. New manual controls and creative options include a Creative Movie Mode, My Color Mode, and High Dynamic Mode. Creative Movie Mode lets users adjust the shutter speed and aperture settings manually. My Color Mode gives you control over the color, brightness, and saturation parameters. Finally, High Dynamic Mode helps you capture a scene with moderate exposure even if the scene contains both bright and dark areas. The LUMIX DMC-FZ35 will have a suggested retail price of $399.99 and will come in black.

LUMIX DMC-FP8

Panasonic’s FP series focuses on excellence in both design and function. The LUMIX DMC-FP8 features a futuristic-looking body and also offers advanced functions such as high-speed Auto Focus (AF) and Panasonic’s Intelligent Auto (iA) suite. The FP8 features blue LED cursor buttons that glow when pressed. Other features include a 2.7-inch Intelligent LCD, face recognition for up to three faces, 27 scene modes, and PHOTOfunSTUDIO 4.0 software. The FP8 can record HD videos at 30fps with a resolution of 1280 x 720p. WVGA (848 x 480) and VGA (640 x 480) capture modes are also available. The LUMIX DMC-FP8 comes in black, red, and silver for a suggested retail price of $299.95.

LUMIX DMC-ZR1

As mentioned, the LUMIX DMC-ZR1 features a 0.3mm thin aspherical lens. This thin lens enables a compact body but still provides a powerful, 25mm-ultra-wide-angle, 8x optical zoom LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with an equivalent zoom range of 25-200mm. Another key feature of the ZR1 is its fast, high-speed Auto Focus and start-up time of only 1.1 second. Rounding out the list of features, the ZR1 offers a 2.7-inch Intelligent LCD, face recognition, a travel mode, and High Dynamic Mode. The ZR1 comes with PHOTOfunSTUDIO 4.0 software to help you view, edit, and archive your photos. The LUMIX DMC-ZR1 is expected to cost $279.95 and will be available in black, red, blue, and silver.
