Novell announces PCs preloaded with SUSE Linux

Buying a PC with Linux installed and ready to go -- what an attractive idea. Novell thinks so too, and has announced agreements with four manufacturers to distribute PCs pre-loaded with SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. An age of choice in operating systems is upon us and Novell is making sure that choice is becoming easier.

R Cubed, a U.S. based vendor, is suppling a low end machine just under $500 dollars and a high machine coming in just over $3500. You can expect to see more rigs setup in similar fashion from major PC vendors in the near future, as evidenced by Lenovo's recent announcement of a Linux based ThinkPad.

Roger Levy, Novell vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions, said, "Market demand for desktop operating system alternatives is really starting to take off, and these new partnerships will help meet that demand. White-box builders sell millions of PCs and are a crucial part of the growing spread of Linux on the desktop. We're very pleased with our new partners, and we're working with more than a dozen others to further expand the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 and bring the benefits of desktop Linux to the widest possible market."
