Nokia, ZTE And Others See ITC Complaint From InterDigital
Lawsuits, lawsuits, and a few more lawsuits. That really does seem to be the order of the month.
With Apple, Samsung, HTC and countless others currently battling it out over Android, IP and all manner of patent troubles, InterDigital has found an opportune time to get into the mix. The company has recently announced that it will be filing a complaint against Nokia, Huawei and ZTE With International Trade Commission. Those are three very major companies, with huge stakes in the mobile arena.
The complaint alleges that the Respondents have engaged in unfair trade practices by making for importation into the United States, importing, and selling after importation, certain 3G wireless devices, including WCDMA and cdma2000 mobile phones, USB sticks, mobile hotspots, and tablets, and components of such devices that infringe seven of InterDigital's U.S. patents. The action also extends to certain WCDMA and cdma2000 devices incorporating WiFi functionality. In conjunction with the ITC filing, InterDigital has also filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware alleging that Respondents' 3G wireless devices infringe these same InterDigital patents.
It's tough to tell if this suit will mean the end of any products and technologies people use everyday, but it's expected that someone will end up shelling out, at the very least.
