NPD Group Says PlayStation 4 Took Xbox One Out Behind The Wood Shed Again In April

More console gamers are choosing Sony's PlayStation 4 than Microsoft's Xbox One system. This was confirmed by market research firm NPD Group, which pegged the PS4 as the best selling game system in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive month, followed by the Xbox One, which Microsoft confirms sold 115,000 units in April.

It will be interesting to see if the PS4 can maintain its momentum once Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox One. Beginning June 9, 2014, gamers will have the option of picking up the Xbox One without a Kinect motion control sensor for $399, the same price as a PS4. In addition, Microsoft recently announced changes to its Xbox Live Gold membership -- you no longer need a Live Gold subscription to enjoy streaming media from apps like Netlifx and Hulu.

Titanfall

As for right now, both consoles are pushing more software sales than the previous generation consoles did following their respective launches.

"PS4 software combined with Xbox One software sales are up over 40 percent compared to sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 through their first six months," NPD notes.

Even with that being the case, overall software sales declined 10 percent to $227.9 million, compared to $254.3 million during the same period a year ago. Not surprisingly, Titanfall was the top selling title, followed by Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14, Minecraft for the Xbox 360, and LEGO The Hobbit.

"PlayStation 4 Took Xbox One Out Behind The Wood Shed" LMAO!!! :)

Nice try M$, but $399 is STILL way too much. The XB1 is weaker and slower than the PS4. $349 would merely be on par for value, not even a bargain yet. Only at $299 we start talking.

But then again, too little too late. Who could forget the lies, the PR spins, the always on, the "impossible to remove" DRM that was removed 48H later, the youtube video comments censoring, the epic fail reveal with 80% TV content, etc... This console wannabe that is more a Frankenstein, Jack of all trades, master of none, totally failed. Just admit it M$ and move on.

At this stage of generalized cancer and necrosis, $199 in WalMart discount bin is the best you can hope for to move at least some of those XB1 off the shelves. And you seriously thought $399 would be good enough? Poor M$...

M$, one piece of advise since you are now "listening to your customers and removed an artificial gold paywall with not a single added value" (LMFAO)... : Sell the xbox division pronto while it is still worth something to someone that 1- know what they are doing and 2- who doesn't take their customers for retarded fools.

No wonder the entire M$ senior staff has been fired in the last 2 years:

Windows phone: ABYSMAL FAIL

Windows 8: MAJOR FAIL

Windows 8.1: STILL FAIL

Widows 8.2: WILL STILL FAIL, BUT SLIGHTLY LESS DUE PARTIAL START MENU BACK

Windows RT / Surface: EPIC FAIL

Windows 9: WILL FAIL, UNLESS COMPLETE REMOVAL OF METRO + 100% FUNCTIONAL WIN7 START MENU

XB1: SOLID FAIL, BUT LOOKING SLIGHTLY BETTER WITH NO NSA APPROVED SPY CAM, NO GOLD ARTIFICIAL PAYWALL FOR STREAMING AND $399 PRICE.
