Mozilla Pushes Firefox To Version 9.0

Maybe it's just us, but we don't recall Mozilla updating Firefox this frequently in years past. Whatever the case, Firefox has just pushed over to version 9.0, available with Mac, Windows and Linux. What's new? Let's take a look:

The latest version of Firefox has the following changes:

Added Type Inference, significantly improving JavaScript performance
Improved theme integration for Mac OS X Lion
Added two finger swipe navigation for Mac OS X Lion
Added support for querying Do Not Track status via JavaScript
    Added support for font-stretch
    Improved support for text-overflow
Improved standards support for HTML5, MathML, and CSS
    Fixed several stability issues
    Fixed several security issues

Have you downloaded it yet? Any issues / praises / complaints?

I just installed FF on my Rok Box a couple of days ago and didn't even notice it wasn't FF8 lol. I haven't used Firefox in a while - since early FF7- because of some page loading issues.. but so far I haven't encountered any problems with the new FF9. I'm hoping it stays that way :)

I'm using Firefox 10 (10.0~b1) from the Ubuntu 12.04 alpha repos, and it really hasn't visibly changed in recent versions (as far as desktop use goes). I understand the performance is supposed to be improved, but it always performed fine for me in the first place.

FX altered the update cycle because Chrome updates like every damn day. I hate it. Makes big version feel less worthwhile.

My FF 9 eats up memory like crazy. Keep it running for many hours and see what it does to your system.

Aw that sucks! I haven't had that problem yet and mine is running all day, along side my folding program. No lagging, freezing or anything. Mind you I might have a different experience if I was on a different computer than the Rok Box. This machine can handle anything thrown at it.  Maybe I'll update the FF on my laptop and see how it does performance wise there.

3vi1, you might want to consider installing the ppa for Firefox Nightly alongside your current version. It's presently at 12.0a1 - I use it as my default browser (prefer it to Chromium, which still refuses to offer me a sidepanel for my bookmarks) and amazingly for a so-called «alpha build», I've never encountered any problems with it....
