Mophie's Juice Pack Plus Finds Way Into AT&T Stores

If you were one of the lucky ones grandfathered in when AT&T changed to tiered data plans, you may be using your iPhone 4 more than ever before. The only trouble with that is the battery; Apple made great strides to improve the battery life on the iPhone 4 compared to the 3GS, but using it hard all day still drains it pretty heavily. If you have found yourself watching your iPhone 4 die on you every evening, AT&T now has a solution: Mophie's Juice Pack Plus for iPhone.

Mophie has just cracked into a major distribution channel for their newest iPhone energy pack, with this particular product seeping into AT&T stores nationwide. The Juice Pack Plus has the largest battery capacity of any juice pack case produced to date, and is Mophie’s second rechargeable external battery case designed for the iPhone 4. This one is slimmer than ever, and barely creates a bulge at all. There's a 2,000mAh battery in there, which over doubles the iPhone 4's internal battery. That way, you could even forget to charge your phone one night, and you'll still be okay through the next day.

The Juice Pack Plus will be selling at AT&T stores for $99.99, with a Magenta version available only via AT&T's website for the same price. But here's the real question: will Mophie also start to sell these in Verizon stores starting next month?

Battery life is the one enormous downside of modern smartphones. Under actual heavy use (3G, WiFi, video playback, etc) the iPhone 4's battery doesn't last a day--it tops out at around 4.5 hours. Obviously that's a very high-use scenario but it demonstrates the point (a new 3GS runs out ~3.5 hours).

A battery that doubles capacity is unquestionably awesome--I'm just not sure it's $99 worth of awesome.
