Microsoft’s Major Nelson Unboxes Xbox One Retail Bundle

The Xbox One is coming, and amid the many, many details we know about it already, one thing we haven’t seen is what’s actually inside the box when you buy one at retail. Microsoft’s Major Nelson (Larry Hryb) remedied that by unboxing the retail bundle on camera.

The Kinect sensor is first out of the box, followed by a headset, the controller, a 4K-capable HDMI cable, the manual and other paperwork, and power brick and accompanying cord. Underneath all that is the Xbox One itself, wrapped in black.

The console looks rather small in Hryb’s hands, but it’s very much the shiny black rectangle we’ve seen in product shots. The slot-loading disc drive is on the front, and around one side, there’s a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port and a binding button to set up controllers.

Around back, there’s the power port, HDMI in and out, S/PDIF optical audio out, two more SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, the Kinect port, an IR port, and gigabit LAN port. There’s also a Kensington lock. Hryb also mentions the 500GB hard drive, “8-core x86 processor”, and WiFi. The on/off switch is on the front and appears to be a touch button that glows when the system is on.

He also shows off the controller and its redesigned look. There’s a new D-pad (chromed out for the Day One special) and impulse triggers on the back. Standard editions of the Xbox One will include the mono chat headset with in-line audio controls improved comfort and audio quality.

So there you have it--the Xbox One retail bundle, all undressed.

Looks good. I still would have to buy the Xbox One over the PS4.
