Microsoft Announces Kinect For Windows v2

The second version of Microsoft’s Kinect for Windows is nigh, and the company has shared images of the final hardware design.

There’s nothing too revolutionary here, but Microsoft has made the Kinect for Windows v2 to be slightly more inconspicuous by moving the “Kinect” label to the top of the device and swapped out the glowing “X” logo for a simpler, lower-profile indicator.

There’s a hub which accepts input from the sensor and the power brick and also has a USB 3.0 output to a PC, and of course there’s the power brick itself.

Microsoft says to stay tuned, and that it’s getting closer to launching the next generation of Kinect for Windows.

Kinect for windows?Really?...Has every one over at Microsoft lost their minds? How much did this cost in R&D..i'll bet enough that you could have taken all that money and put it into something way more useful like say...ohh i don't know how about ....lets say...MAYBE A NEW OPERATING SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T SUCK AS MUCH AS WINDOWS 8.No .no you guys keep working on kinect..and leave the operating systems to Linux, and Apple. If you guys keep going along your current track i can see a day when I'll be having a beer with a friend and saying..."Remember that software company ..what was their name?..oh yeah microsoft..yeah,thought they were indestructable..yeah too bad huh?"come on guys less time on the games.More time developing windows or the next gen operating system.geez.You do know the xbox one is already outdated equiptment wise don't you ..and that it hinders game development because it forces developers to make stuff for old equiptment for years..get it together

So lack of the Start Menu makes the whole OS suck?

I haven't found one, NOT ONE program worth mentioning that doesn't run and run well. I welcome the opportunity to possibly open up the Xbox library of games to Windows where they will look and run better including Kinect games and open source development. With the new consoles we have across the board DX11 support which is a major plus and from the looks of it DX12 support also eliminating bottlenecks. Office, Graphics, video editing, multimedia, etc. applications all run flawlessly with the right hardware.

When the new update drops with the return of the Start Menu, I guess that will magically make it a better OS...
