Micro 3D Printer Explodes Past $2.25M Funding On Kickstarter In Just Days

Remember that neat little Micro 3D printer that we covered a few days ago? The one that was looking for $50,000 in funding via its Kickstarter campaign? It was doing well out of the gate, nabbing about $1 million on its first day, but that frenetic pace has not abated much.

The current total in pledges is at $2.28 million and counting, and the campaign still has 25 days left to go.

The Micro 3D Printer’s appeal is obvious. It promises incredibly simple functionality, at least reasonable quality, a small size to fit comfortably in the home or office, and--most importantly--a relatively low price point.

It appears that the Micro 3D Printer could cost as little as $299, but that number is “for a limited time” according to the Micro 3D website. Still, considering how much cash the company now has coming in, it’s reasonable to expect that they could streamline manufacturing and possibly reduce the costs for end users.

Sometimes unbridled success on sites like Kickstarter can backfire, as some companies simply aren’t equipped to handle that level of financial success; we sincerely hope that the Micro 3D folks are ready.

That's insane, but not surprising with the rising popularity of 3D printers. I'm curious as to what they were planning on for the initial production. A jump from $2.28 million from $50k could be impossibly difficult to adapt to.

Well stated. Too small for me to jump on, how many minature cups and figurines does one person need?

I like the idea and concept for creating cases for Raspberry Pi or UDOO or whatever so even though not getting a "Micro" guess it's good for the industry as a whole. Just hope the people behind it appreciate the success and scale their shit up accordingly and don't blow it.

yeah its kinda scary how fast that took off. I've held off on it, not enough info some say( been lurking in the comments) and leery on most Kickstarter projects I've 'backed' 6 of them one has yet to complete any where near on time. (all being software/games) I have early access to most, now via Steam or the like, but they are all past due.

I wish them luck and do hope they can scale their project up in size and keep the quality high and price low enough to make it a home user product. I still want a Laser Cutter for home use.

Yeah, the rate at which that campaign is progressing is insane. At this rate, it's going to pass even the ouya. That said, let's hope it turns out a little better.
