Looking to construct a new HTPC
? Need a graphics card to finish the build? If so, MSI
's hoping you'll cast a glance its way, as it has just announced two new cards that are prime candidates for media center PCs. The R4600 HDMI series is currently made up of just two cards -- the R4650 and R4650 -- both of which include HDMI sockets for easy TV connections and 512MB or 1GB of RAM (depending on model).
Strangely, MSI doesn't bother sharing other important tidbits like clock / memory speeds or anything like that, though it does make clear that 7.1-channel audio from Blu-ray Discs is possible. Also, the card is capable of handling 1080p content, and it also supports Unified Video Decoder (UVD) 2.0, so that the CPU is not decoding the entire digital stream itself. Of note, these cards both use a maximum of 75 watts of power and thus do not require an extra PCIe 12v power supply. Not surprisingly, they're also small enough that they won't bump into any other nearby PCIe slots.
We're hoping to here more about pricing, availability and full specifications soon.
