MSI Cuts No Corners With Beastly GT72 Dominator Pro Gaming Notebook

Thick, heavy gaming notebooks are a bit out of fashion, but MSI (a company that also has slim gaming notebooks to sell) is outing a beastly desktop replacement rig that purports to destroy benchmarks.

In any case, MSI seems to have pulled out all the stops for the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro. It has a 17.3-inch display (1920x1080) and runs on an Intel Core i7-4710Q (2.5GHz, up to 3.4GHz), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M (8GB), and 32GB or 24GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM.

On the storage side, you can configure a GT72 Dominator Pro with up to four 128GB SSDs (M.2) in RAID 0 in tandem with a nice big 1TB (7200rpm) HDD. There’s a Blu-ray burner on board, Dynaudio Premium Speakers with a subwoofer, 1080p HD webcam, an SDXC/HC card reader, six UBS 3.0 ports, and HDMI 1.4 and two mini DisplayPorts.

MSI tricked out the GT72 Dominator Pro with Killer DoubleShot Pro technology, which combines the Killer NIC and Killer N1525 Wireless-AC to intelligently prioritize applications using the two connections.

This notebook does not lack for lighting options, and the frameless keyboard by SteelSeries has several quick launch keys. The multitouch trackpad looks to be revamped over the previous Dominator series, and the chassis is one piece of aluminum that measures 16.85 x 11.57 x 1.88 inches.

The MSI GT Dominator Pro starts at $2,599.99 (model 010) and $2,999.99 (model 007).
