For true music lovers,
Logitech's Squeezebox line is one they're very
familiar with. The company's latest offerings in the line are some of
the best yet, with the Squeezebox Radio Wi-Fi music player and
Squeezebox Touch giving owners simple, intuitive access to a wide
variety of music choices including free Internet radio, personal
digital music files and music subscription services. In other words,
each of these should provide you with access to any kind of jam you
could possible need to groove to, all through over-the-air Wi-Fi
networks that are already easy to locate.
Think of these as "connected radios." You just plug it in, turn it on
and connect to your home Wi-Fi network. Once you're online, the
Squeezebox products can tap directly into Internet radio stations or
stream files from any networked machine or hard drive. Pretty much any
file is fair game, with DRM-free iTunes Plus downloads and subscription
services such as Napster, Pandora, Rhapsody, SIRIUS, and Last.fm
available to access at just a touch. The Sqeezebox Radio even touts a
color screen to display album art, track and station information.
There's also a few typical radio functions like six preset buttons for
storing your favorite song, Internet radio station or playlist. There's
also a built-in alarm clock as well as a 3.5mm jack to plug in any kind
of wired music source too. The Squeezebox Radio also includes built-in
speakers, and the optional battery pack lets you take it on the road
for up to six hours.
As for Squeezebox Touch, you can expect the same functionality but on a
4.3" color screen that supports touch input. There's also a USB port
and SD card reader for loading up tunes locally, and the bundled wall
mount even lets you make this a part of your home automation/audio
system. Heck, it can even link up with Facebook in order to share music
recommendations, as well as check out your friends’ statuses,
recommendations, and full-color photos. The Logitech Squeezebox Radio
Wi-Fi music player is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe
beginning in September for a suggested retail price of $199.99, while
the Squeezebox Touch should land in December for $299.99.
