LaCie Reveals Stunning New Porsche-Labeled HDD Line

LaCie and Porsche, together at last? We can't say we ever really expected these two names to join forces in any significant way, but they have, and the result is nothing short of stunning. Both of these companies are well known for amazing design, and now that they're working together, it's just easy to love what's coming out of their collaborative efforts. The two just launched an exclusive P´9000 electronics category: the LaCie Porsche Design Mobile (P'9220) and Desktop (P'9230) Hard Drives.

Both of these rely on USB 3.0 and feature aluminum frames and 'purist designs.' In fact, the two have worked together off and on since 2003, and these just so happen to be the newest fruits of their labor. The LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Hard Drive (P'9220) comes in 500GB and 1TB capacities. Additionally, a 750GB model will be available exclusively in the worldwide Porsche Design Stores. The LaCie Porsche Design Desktop Hard Drive (P'9230) comes in 1TB and 2TB capacities. The products will be available through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie Corner, and LaCie Reseller+ starting at £89.90. Not too high a premium for that Porsche bloodline, huh?

Hmmm... If these hard drives don't spin at 10,000 RPM and have insanely high transfer speeds then I'm not interested.

The least they could do was pack an SSD into that baby, now that'd recreate the speeds of a Porsche! Design is not going to be enough to carry this hard drive.

I am afraid even with Bugatti name behind an HDD this is a dead man walking.

Not too bad of a price. There is still a big demand for external hard drive devices by consumers. SSDs just are not cheap enough yet to start building external drives with them.

This is not the car company Porsche, this is F.A. Porsche. His company does custom design on lots of consummer products. This also isn't the first time LaCie uses the company, since I have a LaCie Porsche designed hard drive from about 5 years ago.

Thanks for the clarification InfinityzeN1!

Yeah, I think it looks cool, sleek and best of all shiny but I don't know if I'll be getting one. But the price point does seam reasonable for an external fashionable hard drive like that.

I think it may do well for those that seek a 1 TB - 119.00 & 2 TB - 159.00 in a sharp,sleek,a solid aluminum chassis

you get what you pay for

A lacie drive lost me a lot of photographs once. Now they get to keep the rest of them.
