Kim Kardashian, iPhone 5 Rank as Top Searches on Bing
In the field of technology and consumer electronics, the iPhone 5 ranked No. 1 as a search term on Bing, according to the "Bing Top Searches of 2012 Report," which is based on the aggregation of billions of search queries (it also topped the list for news stories). Here's how it broke down:
- iPhone 5
- iPad
- Samsung Galaxy S III / Samsung Galaxy S3
- Kindle
- iPad 3
- iPod touch
- Xbox
- PlayStation 3
- iPhone 4S
- Windows 8
People’s fascination with the latest smartphones, tablets and games consoles remains unfettered in 2012, with products from Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Samsung topping the list," the Bing Team said in a blog post.
In social media, Facebook was the most searched term. Twitter came in second, and surprisingly, Myspace was No. 3 on the list, a sign that perhaps the social networking site is still relevant.
Getting back to Kim Kardashian (you know, the important stuff), she jumped up a spot from 2011 to overtake Justin Bieber as the most searched celebrity in 2012, pushing Bieber into second place. Even though it was an election year, Barack Obama came in as the 46th most searched person of the year on Bing, while Mitt Romney came in 43rd. Pop stars like Miley Cyrus (No. 3), Katy Perry (No. 6), and Nicki Minaj (No. 9) dominated the top 10 spots.
If you're worried about any of this being signs of the apocalypse, you can breathe a sigh of relief -- Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and related search terms didn't top any of the categories they appeared in (TV Shows, Reality TV Star, and News Stories). Phew!
