Intel Drops CPU Pricing By Up To 48 Percent
on certain processors including a 40% decrease in price for the Top-end Core 2 Quad Q9650 (12M L2, 3.0GHz, 1333 MHz FSB 45nm) down from December 1,000 unit tray wholesale pricing of $530 to $316.
Although the rumor mill may relate the change in Quad Core prices to the debut of the AMD Phenon II, more than likely it is due in part to Intels release of the Core I7 processor line. It has been Intels historical practice to decrease pricing on previous generation higher end CPU's to better position pricing of new generations.
Other notable price decreases are a 40% drop in the Xeon X3370 (12M L2 cache 3.00 GHz (95W) 1333 MHz FSB 45nm) server processor from $530 to $316 and the largest decrease, the Celeron 570 (1M L2 cache 2.26 GHz 533 MHz FSB 65nm) mobile processor drops 48% from $134 to $70. All of the Celeron Mobile processors are now priced at $70.

So nice to see the prices dropping like this. Even the Top-Dawg AMD Phenom II 940 3.0 GHz is selling for $235 on NewEgg. Competition is great! |

I could see this appealing to those looking to upgrade just the cpu. I kinda got excited at first thinking they were gonna cut prices on the i7's but fat chance of that since AMD hasn't come close to competing with them as of yet. Maybe when they release the next round of i7's the current will drop(whenever that may be!) |
Yeah I am thinking about retiring the old Pentium D. |

wow. i'm trying not to regret getting the 9550 for $300 a few weeks ago. but, the difference between the 9550 and 9650 isn't that much. |
