nice! and that is a pretty reasonable price... although id rather it have an i7 and base processor speeds of 3.0 Mhz with a 3.5 turbo :) |
That price is awesome for the performance you are getting. I'd rather pay a little more to get a better quality screen resolution though. Sandy Bridge is taking over! |
You might want to change the "Higher score = better performance" label on your LAME graph. |
Got it, SBorten, thanks! |
The new G73 just came out, any chance you guys can get one for a review? |
Funny you should ask, Infinity! I'm shooting that one on video tomorrow and sending it off to an editor for testing. :) |
Woot! I'll be watching. I have the original G73 (with the 5870m) and it was by far the best gaming laptop for the money. |
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RTM???? I have no idea what the OS listed is. Windows 7 RTM was version 6.1 build 7600.16385 |
RTM = Release to Manufacturers.... essentially, its OEM |
SmogHog, I deleted that wording so you won't be confused. :) It's Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, plain and simple. |
I'll be honest here.... i know many people *** about these things, but
This is fantastic!!! |

The conclusion lists "Intel's legacy in graphics driver development " as a con ... this seems a bit harsh. This article doesn't give any evidence of current graphics driver issues. It appears that Intel is taking graphics seriously and has made tremendous strides in the last year in improving compatibility and performance in games. What would it take for the reviewer like to see from Intel to change his opinion instead of relying on old perceptions? Couple of factual items: 1) Either the 3DMark06 score or the GPU must be wrong for the Samsung R580; Per notebookcheck.net, the 310M runs between 2900-3900 on 3DMark06. Samsung R580 can also be equipped with NVidia 330M - which would make the score believable. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Samsung-NP-R580-JS03DE-Notebook.25322.0.html 2) The label on the 3DMark06 chart says "Lower Scores = Better Performance". Pretty sure that isn't right. |
@rootheday - Thanks for your feedback. It's always welcome here. I'll answer your questions in line. 1 - Typos in the 3DMark06 graph have been corrected. It was in fact an NV 330M that was configured in that machine. 2 - Also corrected As to the larger question regarding Intel's graphics drive team, I would agree with you that they have made great strides but the operative word is "legacy" here. As it stands today, the drivers are relatively solid and stable, though not as robust as some of their competitors in my opinion. That said, the intent of the point made in that bullet mark was that their legacy (or track record) hasn't been that good and they have to continually improve with some degree of consistency before many "enthusiasts" will consider them up to par and put that legacy behind them. For the mainstream, they won't care so much I suppose. |
That is a very nice price point. Looks great too. |
This is a very nice looking notebook for a decent price. I'd love to own it. |
More and more Asus is the contender to beat when in the realm of laptops, |
I think it's priced right with the overall performance and power saving you are getting .but what I like the most of the review was your comments regarding the keyboard & its size and able to take a bit of key thumpin' that alone make me want to get my hands one .Having become accustomed to using a backlit keyboard that is going to be a must for me. the Asus G73 has it & would use a mouse anyhow. |

One question from me on this specific unit is why did they use the graphic capabilities they did instead of 1920x1080 or even somewhere between what they did use. I mean 1366 x 768 is 720p instead of 1080p why would they need to or choose to use 720p? |
