IOGEAR Intros New USB 3.0 Accessories

USB 3.0 may not be the hotness that it was a year or so ago, but it's still a protocol that's not adopted everywhere, and in turn, more and more accessory companies are jumping on the bandwagon -- even today. IOGEAR has just announced a new SuperSpeed family of products, including the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 4-Port Hub (GUH374) and USB 3.0 SD/Micro SD Card Reader/Writer (GFR304SD).


Moving data at a clip of 5Gbps, the new USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Card Reader / Writers and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 4-Port Hub improve connectivity and efficiency between computers and the peripherals that create, store and transfer digital content.  The compact USB 3.0 Hub is plug-n-play for a no hassle installation and hot swappable for easy connecting and disconnecting of device, while the card reader will handle SD, SDHC, SDXC, MicroSD, MicroSDHC, MicroSDXC, MMC II, RS MMC, Ultra II SD, Extreme SD and Extreme III SD.

Seems a little pricy for a USB hub. Is this a powered HUB? Any idea of if they are going to offer an 3.5 inch internal version of their USB 3.0 card reader with a header instead.

Ya pricey it maybe for a hub, but i think people might just get it for a usb3 extension for older case that has like only 1 usb3 port... lol

Does the USB 4 port hub share the bandwidth of the single USB 3.0 port that connects it to the computer?

If so wouldn't that technically mean each device plugged in cuts another chunk of bandwidth, speed and performance out, which makes the point of using USB3.0 redundant since its advantages get cancelled out...

Not to mention internal hubs/adapters are ranging at about $20 on Newegg, along with cheaper internal and external card readers and writers, I guess its cool IOGEAR is hopping onto the USB 3.0 Train, but it would've been better if they came out with some products to compete with whats currently on the market
