Hurricane Sandy Takes Out Offices of Gizmodo, Gawker, Huffington Post and More

So far, Hurricane Sandy has been about as brutal as predicted; millions are without power, and dozens are dead. It’s also taken a toll on the Internet community. This morning, several major media news sites were down, including Gawker, Gizmodo, Mediate, and the Huffington Post. (HuffPo is back up as of now, but the others are currently still down.)

Datagram, Inc., which provides Internet access in the New York metro area, has serious flooding at its facility, and according to its update page, they’re still pumping water out of the basement and have no timetable for when operations will be back up and running. The company’s Connecticut facility is operational, though, and although Datagram is able to receive email, the phones are out due to outages to Verizon, AT&T, and Windstream.


Gizmodo and Gawker have, however, managed to post stories via special update sites.
