As usual HH puts up incrediable prizes! Thats an awesome rig and of course I would like the oppurtunaty to win any of the prizes so count me in!Im limited cause I have to go to my friends house to get online but I will get in here as much as possible! Thanks for the oppurtunity and good luck to everyone here! |
Believe it or not HH didn't always have prizes. I think it's a fantastic new development. Good luck to all. |
YES! UT3 tourney. Nice giveaways once again guys. So let me get this straight though, you need to be 1 of the 5 winners to play in the competition? |
AMAZING contest! glad to see some gaming involved too! hopefully i can get my computer back up and running to play (and post more). amd seems to be back on track too with the new phenom's, and sponsoring contests seems to go hand in hand with amd. good luck guys! |
Hey Nelson. Yes, you have to be one of the five selected to be a part of the gaming competition... |
hey marco, can you set up a practice server for fun? so that people can tone in on their skills beforing being lunged into an intense dm competation? i wont be able to play since my rig is down. perhaps not that many people would want to practice.... but it would be a nice option to have. perhaps set up a poll to guage demand? |
Well, you can download the demo and play on-line now. We don't have the server setup just yet, but that doesn't mean you can't practice on a public server. |
Hey, what if my poor 4400 can't run UTIII 2.0 -- which it cant (sad panda), it ran 1.1 halfway ... again (sad panda).
[UPDATE] OMG I'm so forgetful it makes no sense, I forgot that I was playing with OGRE and dropped DX in debug, which made UT run like garbage .... so all is better now. |
Looks like i need to dust off my UT3 and get back to praticing it...lol... Another top quality give away again from HH... |
well hopefully I am 1 of the 5 cause I really want to play. luckily UT3 is 1 of the games I just recently got so time to put the other new one's on the side and get to crackin on UT3. what servers do you guys play on now for it if you don't mind me asking. |
I'm with dizowned. What if one of the 5 winners has a system so old that they can't play UT3? I suppose there's no rule that says you can't use a friends' rig, but it's a bit of a catch 22 if you can't win the system because you don't have a system that can play the game. Aside from that one concern, awesome contest. :) |
Wow, this is great: another HotHardware Sweepstakes! I love it when there is a sweepstakes because the forum is so active and the whole atmosphere reminds me of Christmastime when I was a child. And that Phenom II 720 is a great processor, too! I read last month that HotHardware got it to run stable at 3.6GHz and I have wanted one ever since! Those 5 lucky winners will be very happy, indeed! |
Well, we tried to pick a game that participants could play / practice on for free, and one that would run well on a WIDE variety of hardware. UT3's minumum system requirements are: CPU: 2.8Ghz RAM: 512MB Graphics: Geforce 6 series and they recommend: CPU: 3Ghz RAM: 1024MB Graphics: NVIDIA 6800GT/Ultra or 7800GT/GTX SLI Even at the recommended level, that hardware came out about 5 years ago. And don't forget, we're going to use the demo (unless all of the winners happen to own the game), and it's not patched up to v2.0. |
This is like a family reunion everybodys here or will be!Good job! |
Great Contest. I'd sure like to be a part of it, but unfortunately I'm not in the USA. [:'(] And that AMD hardware is HOT! |
Very nice looking case! |
We havnet had a "Game" give away for some time... Last time it was for vid cards... and we played CSS |
What vid cards were they? Must have been a long time ago Say I'm one of the 5 lucky ones, can I pay for my own shipping to be eligible?
>> Once the five lucky winners are selected, we'll be hosting an Unreal Tournament III Deathmatch competition (don't worry, if you don't own the game, the demo is free). The beta demo from 2007? |
Hey guys! Awesome comp! idk if I really feel right being able to win again so soon, but I am totally willing to host a UT3 server for everyone. I could just put the demo map(I don't own the game either) I have FioS 15mbps up and down, so I have the bandwidth. I live in VA so anyone on the US east coast would have good pings. Also Steam is having a free UT3 weekend this weekend, so no better time to practice. I can't promise that the server would be up during the weekend, but weekdays I could keep it up 24/7.
If people are willing to play I would be happy to. Let me know. We have a month to play |
I'd possibly be up to it if my PC could play the game (I'm not sure). Aren't you possibly the best gamer here on HH? |
Who? If your talking about me. I do ok, but UT3 is not my game by any means. |
Thanks for the heads up about the Steam weekend Bob! I'm going to see if it will work under Wine. I'm not much of a FPS player, but I got curious to check out the game. The 2007 demo won't work under Wine without a set of patches that Epic seems to have pulled from their website... hopefully I'll have better luck with the Steam version. |
Doesn't appear to work under Wine ATM... oh well. |
It is still not certified, but you could try it. |
As a previous Cedega subscriber of one to two years, I would warn off anyone considering this program for all but the most current games - and only then if they're touted as supported on the main page. My first impression of Cedega was great.. but they kept adding supported games and not listening to feedback. I (and other users) posted bugs and forum messages about EverQuest crashing frequently with easily repeatable circumstances and nothing was ever done about it. At this point, it works better in vanilla Wine than it does in Cedega - despite EQ's "supported" status. I would highly recommend trying the CrossOver Games packages before giving TransGaming your money. |
I wonder how that would work out....there are a lot of variables at play when the final five "shoot" for the best prizes. Say Drago wins -- his dialup would cripple him a bit im sure Say I win -- my laptop or my onboard intel graphics of my HTPC would probably be tough to render above 10 FPS Say JoeSchmoe wins and he lives on a campus behind 0990453 firewall, IPSes, restrictive policies etc.... Say JaneDoe wins and she has carpal-tunnel (sp?) and is unable to play because her hands are crippled.
I am not trying to shoot holes in this or anything as it definitely sounds like a TON of fun, but I would like to avoid a bunch of let-downs later if possible |
I find that aimbots and wallhacks prevent letdowns almost 100%. (ducking... running) :p |
The prizes are great! Good luck guys. I probably won't be entering, I don't want to be fat, lol, my word for being greedy... I want to give others a chance to win something, unless Marco gives out a final word on weather I could or could not participate. |
Woot nice contest, nice system to..... I want in gonna have to grab the UT3 demo!!!!!!!! |
Hullo, Marco ! Lovely prizes, but alas, those of your faithful (?) readers who don't reside in the US are once again left out in the cold. I fully understand why HH doesn't want to pay for shipping a whole computer to, say, Europe (we're also in need of economic stimulus), but perhaps we could be made eligible for lesser (runner-up) prizes ?... Henri |
So what kinda internet connection does one need to have to play UT3? What if one of your chosen cant play due to being behind a university firewall? Does some of these things mean that you cannot be one of the chosen, or just mean you automatically get last place cause of it? |
hey Bob, if you get a server up I gaurantee I will be on it especially since I would probably have the best connection other then yourself As for those with connection issues, I am wondering if you have a laptop if you could possibly say go to starbucks or something just for the tourny. Not sure what the connections like but if it meant being able to play or not I know I would. shoot, I would drag my whole desktop in to starbucks if I had too! Heck if anyone's in my area and they make the final 5 and I don't they are more then welcome to use my pc. I don't that doesn't help many people but i figured I would throw it out there if it does. |
Wow, great contest as always! Unfortunately, I will have to sit back and watch with envious eyes as I can't enter. Perhaps one day contests like this can include Canadians? *hint hint* I know it's not just hothardware, it's some legal issue or something that prevents a lot of contests from going north of the border. Anyway, good luck to all that can win! |
I haven't played UT since 2003 came out lol I was pretty good way back in the day, but i'd have to brush up on my skills. I'm not even sure my system is stable enough to run this game anyway lol I've been having vid card issues for a while know :-( I'm too cheap to buy a new one tho lol |
Great that UT3 demo won't play on my comp it will install but gives me an invalid when I try to crank it up. I think I need to turn of physics I use a ATI card, but it never gives you the option on or off. I tried uninstalling and de-installed it 3 times....... |
As usual, the gang at HH has come up with a winner of a contest. To bad my disability will not allow me to play in a UTIII tourney, but I will be rooting for those lucky five members that do. Keep up the great articles! And it is always fun to lurk and read all the posts> |
I've been cleaning out the lab / office today, and decided to sweeten the deal here just a little. The winner of the system is also going to get an NZXT Avatar Gaming mouse, and all of the other prize packages are going to be beefed up with assorted swag like a portable AMD branded MP3 player, an MSI branded watch, a Tul World Clock, and some other goodies. Basically, whatever I can fit in the boxes I'll throw in as well. |
That is awesome! |
I'm also upgrading the full system with a Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard... |
It seems that the HH HQ is a small warehouse Marco! You better make the boxes bigger I wanted to clarify this for all HHers who don't live in the US. Is it OK for us to enter as long as we pay for shipping if we are lucky enough to be chosen? |
Great contest and I love the whole tournament approach to handing out the prizes. Nice job, as usual guys! Thanks! |
I really cant wait for this one! |
*cough*forumspammer*cough**cough* Edit: Cool, looks like the mods removed the message I was replying to. |
Sweet, My first time checking in since a family tragedy a few weeks ago and I come back to a contest! And a great one at that, I'll be downloading the demo now! |
I remember when we had a tourney a while back with FEAR/CSS -- it certainly was a LOT of fun. Any chance HH would set up a server for us to just mess around on? |
We're on the ball with this one. I already have ALL of the hardware in house. Pics to come shortly... And once we get more organized we'll see about getting a practice server up and running. |
ALLLRIGHT! gidity gidity |
Woot! I was trying to get one up and running, but I can't seem to get the darn thing to work. IDK I will play around with it some more tomorrow evening. |
For anyone having an issue with the UT3 demo, the "modified executable code is not allowed error", change the date on your machine back a few weeks, it will work. |
