Hardcore Phenom II Overclocking--6.2GHz Anyone?

Hardcore Phenom II Overclocking--6.2GHz Anyone?

Earlier today, Gigabyte sent us a link to a video featuring some hardcore overclocking that we thought many of you would like to see. In the video, Chew*, a member of the XtremeSystems community, overclocks an AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor on GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P and GA-MA790FX-UD5P motherboards, and shows his results using air, phase change, dry ice, and liquid nitrogen cooling.

When all was said and done, Chew* was able to break 3DMark06 records for dual Radeon HD 4850s and 4890s running in CrossFire mode and achieved stability at processor speeds in the 5.7 - 6.2GHz range.

Those new Phenoms are phenomenal. I wonder if any of HotHardware's latest Sweepstakes winners will go balls-out and overclock their new X3 720 Black Editions!

Im looking forward to doing some OCing with it maybe Marco can give me some pointers on some settings on that board Im sure he played with it when he done a reveiw on it and Im sure he tweaked it a little. Everything I,ve read indicates its got a lot of potential settings so Im definately going to play with it.

Going to take it nice and slow dont want to hurt this beast!  They wont be no dry ice or liquid nitrogen.

I've thought about it... but I just built a new system... not sure I want to shell out the extra cash to get these parts running... I would need ram, a case, and a CD drive... I could probably scavange a CD drive from my old gateway... and the HDD too... I didn't even realize it had integrated video til I got it lol I'll either end up selling the parts or turn it into an HTPC down the road... not sure yet...

Yeah I have heard a lot of good things from the Phenom IIs as far as overclocking. They seem like fun CPUs to play with.

Ive read a couple reveiws where they got to 3.5 to 3.8 easy which is not bad 4 sounds better! Sounds like fun to me.

Yeah. I need to work on my CPU. Most people hit 4GHz on air and I am sitting at stock 3.0GHz on water.Sad To be honest I have just not found a need to overclock. . .

. . . Yet.

Yeah Im gng to study this bios on this board and see how far I can get on air see if I can get to 4.But Im LOL very protective of this gift I dont want to make it go up in smoke! So far Ive went to a little over 3.4 but got and message saying I beleive not in ganged or unganged mode so I need to study on that because thats a new term to me. But other than that done fine and I do like the fan control  on the radeon through the properties settings. Brought that card temp right down! Thats a cool feature so Im going to study all of these feature. So to start with what is ganged and unganged mode!
